Hands on Care,
Brikama, The Gambia

The Clinic

Hands on Care (HOC) is a small team of inspiring individuals who run The Gambia's largest provider clinic of HIV specialist care. They manage over 20,000 patients, from inpatient care for patients with opportunistic infections and decompensation to outpatient clinics and home-based care.

They also have a multitude of friends and contacts in healthcare across The Gambia so offer a range of bespoke timetables to fit the student's interests: orthopaedic surgery, emergency medicine, dermatology, paediatrics, obs & gynae to name but a few.

This is a customised and very personal experience in which you will be immersed in the every day working life of healthcare professionals in The Gambia.

Alongside the clinical experience, we also encourage students to explore the fruits of Gambia culture. Students have immersed themselves in women's groups for marginalised women living with disability, they have gone to the famous Kunta Kinteh Island and they have explored the Gambia Cotton Trail all the way from Basse in the East to Footsteps Eco Lodge at the beautiful coast.
